I'm having trouble burning .avi files to DVD using nerovision express version 3.0.1.18. Everything goes fine until it starts transcoding the file. It then crashes back to the desktop. Any ideas? Thanks. --Fuzzmaster
If you can post a log of your failed burn we may be able to pick something up. You will find the logs here Nero 6 history log location: Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt Nero 7 history log location: Program Files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory.txt
Thanks for the reply. I am running Nero 6, but have no file called nerohistory.txt in that folder????
If I remember right. For vision express to make a log the error has to prompt you to save the log. With it just crashing when attempting to transcode it is likely a codec issue. Run the avi through gspot to see what codec the avi uses.
I downloaded and ran gspot and it looks like the codec is xvid and the "codec(s) are installed". Still no luck.
I am having a similar issue. I have a collection of AVI, MPG and WMV vid clips that I'm trying to burn to DVD. The product hangs as it starts to transcode the first title. I've removed and rearranged the clips to see if I can get it to go further, I've changed the quality (from 2-pass VBR to 1 pass), etc., I even re-encoded some of the files (i.e. changed WMV to AVI), still the same. I've been battling this for a week. It's not a codec thing, and the files all play just fine on the system using any variety of media players. The product is hanging with the first title, no matter what clips I am using.. Any thoughts?
@fuzzmastr Judging by your version of nero vision express(3.0.1.18): Your using a pretty old version of nero6, you should update to version 6.6.0.18, especially if you want to autoburn using shrink. First, write down your serial# and remove nero from your system using the general cleantool found here: clean tool http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/General_CleanTool.html Then install version 6.6.0.18 and re-enter the serial#, here are the links to version 6.6.0.18 packages. Package1 http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe Package2 http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe After the new install is complete, try the process again.
I ran the clean tool, rebooted and installed the two packages listed, but had the same result. Just as it's transcoding it crashes to the desktop. Any other ideas? Also- I think the reason I don't have the history file might be because I haven't burned a disc yet?
As an alternative you could try a different program to convert your .avi files to DVD, it's called avi2dvd and can get it here at AD along with instructions on use. You can use it to check if the problem is with nero or the .avi files. http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/avi_to_dvd_avi2dvd.cfm
OK I downloaded and ran the avi2dvd program. It ran fine up until the VERY end (after 4 hours) and then gave the following error message: "The instruction at "0x084d9790" referenced memory at "0x07dc3b98". The memory could not be "read"." EDIT: I burned the iso image I wound up with and it looks like it might be OK. I haven't watched the entire DVD yet.
Apparently the DVD I wound up with only contains the first 13 minutes of what was a 76 minute AVI file. Any more ideas?

Try using DIKO to perform the conversion , all necessary tools are included and free, get it here along with a guide; http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=230988 Here's another pretty good guide; http://www.weethet.nl/english/video_diko_avi2dvd.php
Hey, I've got the same problem, but it's not JUST with Nero, DVDSanta is doing it too. DVD Decrytper works like a charm, it's seems only with avi files this is happening. Another thing is that I always convert these files so they auto open with WMPlayer. They won't play in WMPlayer but will in Nero Showtime! Weird if you ask me. I did the g-spot that you recommended and this is what I got when I ran it [DSH YV12 Nero Digital AVC Video Enc {426F6A6F-FEF8-4A5B-8DDC-099E7499EF50} 0x00200000 ** File Missing: ] This is the only one that shows as a problem. I'm wondering if the other people in this discussion are running them through media player too. Sorry for the rambling, I'm just fed up! Help Please! I've even done a system restore.
Tried DIKO - It produced a DVD that my DVD player refuses to play and Nero Showtime says "does not contain a valid DVD-video, SVCD or VCD structure". I can play the .avi file fine, so I know that's not the problem. I just can't convert it to a format that my player will recognize. Any other ideas?
