Hi, I am thinking of putting together a new system soon and have been having troubles with picking between these two cpu's below. I am new to AMD's so i am looking for a little help. Also the system will be pretty much used for gaming only. AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1GHz HT 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor 2.2ghz AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego 1GHz HT 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor 2.4ghz One of my questions is, is there really that much more performance in the 4000+ to make someone want to spend the extra 120.00 on this over the 3700+ ? Also what are the real difference's in these two cpu's below in lamans terms? AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego 1GHz HT 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor Model Brand AMD Series Athlon 64 Model ADA4000BNBOX CPU Socket Type CPU Socket Type Socket 939 Tech Spec Core San Diego Name Athlon 64 4000+ Operating Frequency 2.4GHz HT 1GHz L1 Cache 64KB+64KB L2 Cache 1MB Process Type 90 nm Hyper-Transport Support Yes 64 bit Support Yes Multimedia Instruction MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, 3DNOW! Professional Voltage 1.35V Cooling Device Heatsink and Fan AMD Athlon 64 4000+ ClawHammer 1GHz HT 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor Brand AMD Series Athlon 64 Model ADA4000ASBOX CPU Socket Type CPU Socket Type Socket 939 Tech Spec Core ClawHammer Name Athlon 64 4000+ Operating Frequency 2.4GHz HT 1GHz L1 Cache 64KB+64KB L2 Cache 1MB Process Type 0.13 µm Hyper-Transport Support Yes 64 bit Support Yes Multimedia Instruction MMX, SSE, SSE2, 3DNOW! Professional Voltage 1.5V Cooling Device Heatsink and Fan thank you!
the difference is the core type... not really sure how that makes it different and by how much though... check http://google.com for AMD 64 Clawhammer vs Sandiego benchmarks which ever one scores higher is better
Thanks for the replies! I limited the choices to these 2 but am still searching to see if it is worth the extra 120.00 for the 4000+. AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1GHz HT 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor 2.2ghz AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego 1GHz HT 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor 2.4ghz I do not no if the 4000+ performance compared to the 3700+ really justifies the extra 120.00. thanks again..
