I want to copy a game CD so my grandson can save the original and use the copy to actually play the game. He is a great kid, but he is only 7 and still gets scratches on the CDs. He is learning! Anyway, I tried to copy the CD using Nero Burning Rom 6.6.0.8 and got an error message that says: Unrecoverable read error at 00:15:41

Is this a form of copyright protection or is something wrong with the CD? This is probably a dumb question but I don't know what the error message means. I don't want to do anything illegal but as I understand the copyright law a person is entitled to make one backup copy of a CD for their own personal use. I'm not giving this CD to anyone else!

I have Nero 6 Ultra Suite. I have Windows XP. I am trying to make a working copy of Need For Speed:High Stakes. Is there a way to make a CD that will work to run the game?

    Thank you for your help
    Bonnie

Try downloading clonecd from slysoft and give that a go instead of nero.
Failing that use alcohol 52 or 120.

    Post your question only once,
    (In the appropraite forum).

Ya, first you're going to need A-ray scanner.

Run the program and it will detect the type of protction on your disc.
You can then use alcohol 120%
    Select image making wizard and
(select the same protection that was detected before),
For image type I would select .iso
And copy (the game image) to your harddrive.

You can then mount the images to a virtual drive.
Or if you want to burn a backup select 'image BURNING wizard'.
And choose the same protection in the burn settings and burn a backup of your game.

I sent you a pm as well.
Good luck and welcome to the forums.

I am very sorry. I have no idea how my message got posted twice! Even as a newbie I know better than that!!!

I also don't know how I ended up posting in this forum - I started out in the Nero forum.

I searched like a good newbie for a prior post addressing my question before I posted anything. I think my search led me astray... I think that's how I ended up here.

Should I go back to the Nero forum??? You guys all seem so nice!

    No worries everyone makes mistakes.
Just wanted to make you aware nothing more.
Using the two tools I mentioned you should be able to make that backup.
I sent you a PM also,
Let me know if you have any troubles.
We are glad to have you here.
