I'm trying to back up a copy of Superman The Animated Series Vol 2 for a friend. It's a disc with data on both sides.

My friend tells me it's seen a lot of play time and abuse and the picture is destorted at times .....

I was able to get the one side no problem on the other side, I get so far through with both fabdvd and dvd decrypt and both gets stuck starting at VTS01_5.VOB and continues on.

I get messages like "uncorrectable error" ..... "fail to read sector" ...."unrecovered read error" ....

I used some toothpaste for the scratches and clean the disc throughly. Still no luck ....

    Is it a lost cause?

no its not lost go into decrypter tools settings io and tick ignore read errors set your retrys to about 5 decrypter will try to read the sector if unsucsesfull it will move on each sector is only split second of video so a few missing is no great disaster

Thanks! I'll give it a shot and let you know how it comes out. :)

Update ..... dang .... it didn't work. I watched my friend disc and it freezes up pretty bad in spots ..... anyway decrypt is still giving me I/O errors.

    Good suggestion though .... thanks.

Oh so!! You have the same problem with the kids! Man they can tear up a good dvd can't they?

Okay so what you are saying is I should leave it alone? But what do I do when I get the error box? Hit retry or ignore? What?

if you tick ignore read errors before you start decrypter will handle them by its self

Oh oh ..... I did tick ignore and it still gives me the I/O error message. I told it to ignore it. Now it's trying to retry to read the disc .... it's up to 34 tries .... is this what it is suppose to do?

Also I see that the fail read sectors are different ..... does this mean it's working through the bad sectors?

I have it running now but should I start again and just let the message come on and do nothing? Did I mess things up when I told it to ignore .... maybe it was retry ..... then it ask me if I wanted a decryption key from someplace else and I told it yes.

Was I right in doing so or should I just start again?

It's showing I have 13 read errors with almost 300 retries .... it this what it is suppose to do?

That's correct it could not find it .... I do have the lastest version .... I did tick the ignore read errors, but I didn't do the thing about the retries .... I will do that and start again. This time I will leave it alone and see if it works itself out.

Will let you know what happen. Thanks

I did download that program a month ago, but never installed it. I will do it now .... just let it run in the background will decrypter is running correct?

Oh and when I get the I/O error box decrypter won't continue until I clear the box. I am given the choice to retry or cancel. What ever button I press I get another I/O error box with the same message only this time I get an abort, retry and ignore key. Decrypt just sit there until I make the box go away .... that's went I get the "no decryption key has been found for VTS_01_5.VOB. Would you like to attempt to get and use a decryption key from another file in the same set?" I tell it yes .... that's when it keeps getting all those read errors .....

I'll install that program and see what happens.

Well I installed the dvd43 as you suggested and I made sure the ignore read errors and retry amount tick to 2. I ran dvd 43 in the background it stopped the read error box with decrypter, but alas it didn't work.

I left it running all night. After 376 read errors and 7797 retries .... still stuck at the 47% mark ..... made no progess what so ever.

Thank anyway ..... do you know where I can get a guide for ISO Buster?
