Wireless router as a Wireless Card

Hi,

I would like to know it its possible to use a wireless router as a wireless card?

I Mean i connect a pc to a wireless router and another pc to another wireless router. Then the 2 router can share internet directly.

is it possible and will the range be bigger?

It doesn't work that way. You cannot have more than one router on any given network (least none I have seen) without conflicts. If you did, you'd have to make one router a bridge, or you'd never connect to the net.

Wireless routers do not have a wireless connection to your modem. They use the wireless connections for other computers or uplinks. There isn't anyway I know of, or heard of, two routers being able to communicate to each other thru their wireless interface.

 

Its because i know than its possible to connect a router to the modem set DHCP and Range from 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.50

Then connect another router a wireless one. In a port where a computer is suppose to be. (not the uplink one or the one for the modem)

Once its connected i can configure the wireless router. Disable dhcp server and set ip from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.50

Then i can have a computer with a wireless card that comunicate with the wireless router. And the wireless Router is connected to the wired router then connected to the modem.


I supposed than i could do the same but to connect the two router together use wireless and not cable.

I'm sure its possible but maybe not all router can do it.

oh so wat u want is a wirelestt router where the [bold]router[/bold] is and a wireless accesspoint where the [bold]router/wireless access point[/bold] is is this correct mate?

That is very possilbe as i have one set up as my wireless in my room is rubbish so conecting an acess point inbetween and works fine

Well. i have internet and i share it with my syster, she live in the appartment under mine. But now our 2 pc ares wired by a router.

this summer i'm going in the house in front then i can't use wired router (i can only sor computer in my house) and i wanted to share internet with her. But his wireless card isnt strong enough to get me internet connection through the building. (i meam 1 building to the other one, they are in front of each other)

i though than with 2 wireless router i could make it. 1 in one building the street then another wireless router in the other house connected to a pc.(i get already 2 wireless router, same brand same model... and 1 wired)

i hope you understand what i mean.

No problem, so u have got 1 wired router which needs to be connected to 1 of the wireless router, that wireless access point can be connected to the other pc as long as it is set as an access point.
The other wireless router can be connected to pc as long as it is set as a wireless point and not a router.

well if i understand.

I plug my modem to the wired router.

I set the Wireless router#1 as access point
I plug the Wireless router #1 at the wired router
I plug pc#1 to the Wireless router #1
(this part is exactly the picture)

I set the Wireless router#2 as access point
I plug the Wireless router #2 at the pc#2

the wired router give ip to the 2 pc, and it is the only DHCP server.

I see what you want to do. You may want to check into the manual for the routers to see how access points, and connecting one wireless router to another is done. The other option, would be to get yourself a more powerful wireless card for the computer that's farthest away from the main router.

if range is the issue get one of the signal boosters to put half way between the two pcs

 

well i could buy a repeater to repeat de signal. But, i will buy a better Wireless card i think it will be less expensive. If my router options fails.

 

well, i get what you want to do. have one wireless router hooked up to the net, then have it send the signal to the other wireless router. if you had the router i have (wrt54g linksys) you could get a 3rd party firmware upgrade, that lets you actually boost the voltage to the antenna, giving it a stronger signal. the problem is it causes the router to get hotter. just an idea though if you need that little extra boost. goin up a little works fine, but go to far and you'll have to mod the thing with some fans to cool it better

 

Interesting, but i got Netgear router. It can be interesting to boost signal.

i get 2 Mr814v3 from NETGEAR (WIRELESS)
i get 1 RP614 v2 FROM NETGEAR
i get 1 TEW-423BRP from TREND MICRO (WIRELESS)

In other hand you said than you get a wireless router to communicate to another wireless router how?? and can any router can do it? or only WDS one?

i just got another idea.. If i put the 2 wireless together can i have a better signal.. i mean connect them together to make 1 router with a better signal.. just an idea..

 

i don't know of a way to make 2 routers combine power. but, basically, one router is set in the Gateway mode, the other is set in Router mode. the gateway mode is hooked up to the internet. the router mode gets it's internet signal from the gateway mode router, then sends it to whatever connects to it.

but how i make it in gateway mode and can my router do it?

i can disable DHCP on it and change ip or Mac is needed.
Then how can they comunicate? will my router will see the router in gateway mode ? as a pc? will it be detected? i think if 1 router can see, detect the other one its would be a great thing already, find the rest would be much easyer i think.

haha, it's easy to answer fast when there's nothin to do.
well first you're gonna have to see what settings you have for your routers. mine, have an option to choose gateway and router mode. i'm not sure of how your router works, so there isn't really much i can do to help.

 

they dont get this mode. i didn't see it. Maybe its hide or i have to make it manually or its not possible with this router.

 

well i'm not sure what else it could be called. you could probably just poke around all the settings and you'll most likly eventually find the equivilant of what i'm talking about
