First thing edit out your serial no. before someone pirates it. This version of Nero is full of bugs, uninstall and run Nero General Clean Tool and re install this bug free version http://httpdl6.us.nero.com/software/nero7/Nero-7.0.1.4b_eng_no_yt.exe you can burn at 4X and shouldn't pose any problems. I think an upgrade of Nero7 will fix things.
i tried to burn at 2x on 16x discs i have always used 8x and bought a 100 pack spindle of someone on amazon but whne they arrived they were 16x, i have tried to use them but they don't seem to work, i also don't have any spare 8x discs lying around so i can test as for firmware i have no idea but i did try to update and all i get is a error saying "target NEC ND-2500a is not found correctly" i'm completely at a loss, is it just that this writer won't write to 16x discs??

This needs to be on, go here for a guide http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038 your serial no still appears these discs should be good, What exactly are you trying to do I will do some checking on your burner firmware, it doesn't match what I have found.
The 2500 will write to these discs, but it depends on firmware to handle it correctly. Depending on when you got the burner it's probably 1.06 or older. There are plenty of hacked firmwares available that include write strategies for newer media, updated write strategies for older media and dual layer disc support. These can be installed instead of the official firmware. I use a version of Herrie's currently. Why you couldn't update, I'm not certain. I've done this numerous times and had no error of any kind using the flasher.
