I have a Tivo and a Sony DVD recorder but I cannot copy any movies due to the copyright protection. Is there a way to get around this? If not, how would I go about running it through my laptop in order to be able to copy the movies to dvd?

just wondering is that not stealing? i know you can store them on your tivo hard drive, so i don't know you might have to ask a moderator.

wow... now theres a first... sony actually sucks for you.. i bought a cheap standalone emerson dvd recorder and it records everything... total damage $139 us dollars... you may want to drop that sony off somewhere... now my Sony DRU 810A (dvd burner in my pc) it will burn anything with help of a few programs... like DVD Shrink, DVD Decryptor, AnyDVD, just to name a few... but you kind of lost me... are you trying to take the material from tivo to pc? or from tivo to a standalone dvd recorder? like for your television? because i would suggest not using the tivo... record directly from the cable to the standalone... if that is the case... and if not... if your trying to do it from your pc... try DVD Shrink ... its my personal favorite because it gives you a preview of what its encoding... thats good if your dvd's that you backing up are in rough shape you can tell if its gonna be glitchy.. but i hear alot of people promoting the other software just as much so i guess its all a case of personal prefference
