When i was on irc last night the little thing for norton popped up and said it detected an intrusion attempt. I clicked on it and it said an ip was trying to connect to my computer. I went back to irc and i was disconnected so i just closed it. Another intrusion thing popped up. I went into norton internet security statistics and it said there was 20 something recent intrusion attempts. I kept an eye on the statistics and i kept getting one every minute then 15 minutes then they just stopped at 36. I worried that somebody might get into my computer and plant a trojan or steal information. Is there anything else i can do to protect my computer aside from the norton and windows firewall?

The Internet is a very dangerous place to venture in if you are not under any form of protection. Nowadays everybody install firewalls & even multiple firewalls, antivirus suites, anti spyware & anti almost anything. If your antivirus suite reports any intrusion, there's nothing to worry about because there's bound to have these aliens trying to probe your defences to look for weaknesses. So long you do not have any backdoors open like having a P2P program in your system or visit any dangerous websites - you should be safe.
    Happy surfing.

Theres no need to worry about intrusion attemps, as long as your behind a good firewall you'll be fine, i suggest you buy a router that changes your I.P everytime you connect to the internet and has a biult in firewall for maximum safety, we all get intrusion attemps, just people snooping around for a vunerable comp, if your firewall is blocking them then you'll be ok.

However if you start to get insane amounts of them in rediculous amounts of time then its another matter....
