what if any dvd's come with a silver bottom surface like store bought dvd's? and what is the most univerasally playable form of blank dvd media? i.e.dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd rw etc... i am currently using dvd-r and have had good success for the most part, but have had a few complaints that dvd's were not playing back right or not reading at all. thx
@turtle702 There can be a number a reasons why you are having compatibility problems - brand using, burn speed, firmware not up to date etc. -r are the most compatible for players but to make them almost universally compatible if your drive supports booktyping - booktype +r. This makes the disc appear to be a dvd-rom. You just need a bit more info - drive make and model, current firmware version, brand of discs & burn speed. This isn't really the best forum for this thread so I try and get it moved.
ok thanks, i am very new to burning and have been learnig via friends and internet. the hardware is an nec dvd_rw ND-3540 A. where should i post to get more responses. any help is greatly appreciated as i am learnig all by asking.thx
@turtle702 I did the 'offensive post' thing (your post is not offensive but that's how you get it moved) and asked to have it moved. You've come to the right place to learn!! Now we just need the brand of discs used, burn speed. Which programs are you using?
thanks, i am totally new to chat rooms and dont mean to offend anyone. i am currently using maxell dvd-r 8x with printable tops. i use dvd shrink which creates the ISO. file and sends it to dvd decrypter wher i burn from. i have had ok success so far, but am looking for a more reliable way even if i need to burn at 1x and nuy better discs or get better software. thx
@turtle702 You didn't offend anyone The discs your using are probably made by Maxell themselves or Ritek - Ritek is so so and if that's who manufactured them may be the reason for some of your problems. Maxell is good media just look for Made in Japan. Other media to use would be Taiyo Yuden (in store look for Made in Japan Fuji or Sony) or Verbatim. Set your burn speed at 4x in decrypter and see if that's helps. No need to go lower than than. Your should also make sure your drive's firmware is up to date. The latest for your drive is 1.04. To check open decrypter and go to Tools>Drive>Check for Firmware Updates. It will give you a popup listed your current version then take you to the firmware page to check. Firmware helps/updates your drive with read/write strategies on media. For booktyping you would need to use +r/rw discs. Here's a great guide on booktyping: http://k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php
