Hi guys! I'm buying a new laptop soon but I have a dilemma--I can't decide if I want to go for the XP AMD2500+ mobile processor or if I want the pentium 4 with 1.6ghz. Right now I'm running on a p2, so anything is better, but I want to make sure I get the most for my money. I plan on being the heavy dvd/cd burner, with light gaming. I hear AMD is better for heavy gaming and p4 is better for everything else. Which is "better" or are they equivalent? Help me decide!!! -gameplan
I do a lot of DVD burning, authoring, editing with Pinnacle Studio Plus v. 9.4.3 using an AMD 1.8 GHz. I can tell you that I wish I had a minimum of 2.5 GHz which is what you will have the AMD 2500. P.S. if you consider Pinnacle, don't let anyone discourage you by saying it's too hard to learn. Once you figure it out, it well worth it.
If you are going to upgrade at this piont in time go for nothing less than a 64 bit processor. Here is a link to help you look at the benefits of AMD. Also if you are going to do multitasking go AMD dual core. I have it on my desktop and love it.
Well as you can tell by my sig.I have both.My first AMD was kind of an experiment, this is my third and most likely not my last. While I still use my Intel (h-t,lots of ram, great for multitasking) Guess what I'm using now (hint not Intel). AMD rocks! Best bang for the buck!
