    I just got an external HD not to long ago. Plugged it in using USB port 2.0. everything installed automatically like it should so no problems there. I went into compmgmt.msc/disk mgmt and set up the drive and it showed up in "my computer". i woke up this morning and the External HD will not show up in "my computer" nor in compmgmt/disk mgmt. I went back into compmgmt/devise maganger and uninstalled the software, plugged the exteranl HD back in and it automatically installed everything back, but that still didnt work...i have no idea what to try next...there is no sign up the drive on my computer what-so-ever. any help or advise as to what to do would be much appreciated...

    using Win.XP

    Turn your computer off, then unplug the USB cable and then the power to the drive. Restart you computer, plug the power into the hard drive, wait 10 seconds and then plug the USB into the computer. This clears the hard drive buffer. See if the drive shows up in disk management. Another thing you could do is get a USB 2.0 to IDE adapter and install the driver internally. Have you tried switching USB ports?? Do you have a Firewire cable that came with the drive?? How about in your bios, do you have an option to change USB to Enhanced?? Maybe the HD is not drawing enough power from that USB port your using, usually the case with front mounted usb ports. Try using a port closer to the motherboard. These are just a few tips, maybe some of the other guys can give you a couple more suggestions..Good Luck
