I have an HP ZV 5000 Laptop. I have tried to capture video from my analog Hi8 camera but it will not recognize the video camera.

The laptop has an S-Video connector already in it.

    What am I doing wrong??

As you can tell, I am very new at this, so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

did it say found new hardware? If not i would see if you have another wire and try using that and see because it could be a bad connector

Is that laptop S-Video an input/ output or just out only?
Check the camcorders forums and you will get more answers.

S-Video ports on the vast majority of systems, are Output only. Those will have four pins. VIVO on the other hand, is a similar looking port, but has more pins, and will have an adapter for video input and output...both S-Video and Composite.

If the camera came with a USB connection cable, you can use that and any video capture software.

    Thanks for the info.

The S-Video connector is a four pin. So with what was said, it appears that this is an out port only.

    Thanks again.
