I'm up n running again only now with a Q9450. even tho they are very good cpu hsf's these TR U120E's are a pain in the a$$ when only upgrading the cpu. if it wasn't for my removable mobo tray, I probably wouldn't have upgraded the cpu.

not too bad tho really. started about 9:00 this morning and was up n runnin' again by about 11:30 and that included a trip to the post office to mail my E3110 to Lp531.

not gonna dink in the bios until I update it, which I'm gonna do right now.

bios is flased and everything is set (to run at stock that is). I'll leave her here for a bit before I try my hand at a mild to mediocre OC.

well, getting my Q9450 to 3.4ghz was a cinch. I may not even need that much vcore. memory freq at 1065.4mhz. I don't see any problems with achieving 3.6ghz. that will come later. I'm going to run it here for a while. I've got some more torture testing to do at this speed. here's a couple screenshots:

very nice mort. 62000+ mips is unreal..
have ya tried any apps yet and see how the quad works with them?

hey how high do you think a Q6600 will OC safely?

38ÂșC after 25 mins of OCCT? The coretemps are about what I'd expect but that's a fabulous CPU temp.

The Q6600 can do 3.6Ghz safely. You will need a good cooler, and it kinda depends on the CPU.

Sam, I told you the Q9450 ran cooler! hah

i got my q6700 (almost the q6600) to 3.4ghz on a mobo that is supposedly very bad for overclock quads (ASUS Striker) and that was with 1.45v set in bios....(actual 1.36v when idle and 1.32v under load)

Mort, besides it takes 200 hours for AS5 to set so you can expect some small improvement there. I don't think my last application has set yet. Looking good so far.

    90mV vdroop, eugh...
Still, using an Auto voltage setting for my board I've no idea what my vdroop is. What I can say is that when I run Orthos, my Vcore drops from 1.41 to 1.39.

    Vdroop mods are great!

    Really help the OC.

What exactly is involved with a vdroop mod? I've no intention of doing one, but I'm curious to know electronically what you're doing that makes such a difference.

I have loadline calibration enabled so my vcore is the same idle or loaded.

    spammer,

lets see some arethmetic benchys of you Q6700 at 3.4ghz for comparisons sake.

All I had to do was pencil a resistor.

How does that help the voltage drop then? Why would they include a resistor that makes the voltage line out so susceptible to current draw?
