Sorry, accidentally posted twice.
I have read many threads about this and none solve my problem. I'm trying my first rip and I'm not very technical so I have followed the guide and then tried suggestions from the threads with no luck. I have tried different versions of TMPGEnc as well. The current version I have is this: 2.510.49.157, I used SmartRipper 2.4.1 which worked fine, DVD2AVI 1.77.3 and checked that the DVD2AVI.vpf file exists and is high priority, and I just can't get the .2dv to open. It says it is unsupported.
is it that the different versions of all these programs are slightly incompatible? if anyone knows of a winning combination I would be so grateful as I'm about to give up.
I also tried VirtualDUB and that didn't recognise the .2dv either.
is it better to actually BUY a package that will do it all instead? if so, any recommendations?

I don't know about TMPG but in virtualdub you cannot load the .D2v file directly. You have use a program called VFAPIConvert to make a dummy AVI file. The AVI file will then load in virtualdub and feed the D2v file.

How am I? I'm still alive... damn the luck!
