I made a copy "Two for the Money". I made this backup the same way that I have all my others. However, before I used Maxell DVD +Rs and they worked fine. I moved to the TDK because I wanted the printable surface. Could somebody let me know why these disc aren't working? I never had a problem with any other type of disc. Thanks
Its a sad fact of life that some stand alone players are picky about the media they play. You could try booktyping your +R discs to DVD-ROM and see how that goes, heres a guide on booktyping http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/277889#1577028#1577028 if that doesnt solve the problem you will have to revert back to a disc that works, I use Verbatim Ink jet printable discs.
Aside from booktyping... is there anything else I can do? Any settings in either of the programs. I don't want to have just wasted $30 on coasters. Help me out!
The only other suggestion, other than booktyping, is to burn the disc at the slowest possible write speed. If it doesn't work, its bound to be that your DVD player is NOT accepting your TDKs. I personally have not had a problem with TDKS with my Sony HDMI DVD player, but I typically stick to Verbatims. If you have a Sams Club nearby, they typically carry 100pk 8x Verbatim DVD+R and DVD-R discs for $30. Thats about the cheapest you'll find good quality discs unless you catch a sale. Hope this helps.
sorry to say but those tdks arent that great. i agree with the sams club. you should still have the originals on the dvds you burned.. just redo them off the originals.
Ok another question. I just tired copying the original onto a TDK-R since they are good quality for backing up my playstation games. It works fine when I do the book typing. I always thought that you were supposed to use +R disc for a dvd player because there was a better chance they would work on most players. Is this true or is it possible to just use -R for everything?
how long have these worked? i would recommend to swap them over to better media.. i would do this anyway.. ok.. that is true.. that's on any player / reader you can use it for everything.. but the booktype gives you even more compatibility.
Everyone keeps saying change my media... but the reason I bought these TDKs is because they were so highly rated. http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm That site has been mentioned many times. My disc have a media id of TTG02. According to this site... they are top rated disc.
Ok I actually looked at that... and the +Rs aren't rated. I'll just use the -Rs until I'm out and then get some other stuff. Probably go with the Verbatims if I have any problems with the TDK -Rs Is there any place to just buy a couple disc to make sure they work before I go out and buy 100 of them? Thanks for the response
1. You can not booktype DVD-R, only DVD+R and then only if your DVD drive supports it. 2. DVD-Rs are generally the most compatible with DVD players. DVD+Rs are booktyped to increase their compatiblity. 3. Most TDKs +Rs code as CMCs, a very unreliable media code. 4. Suggest burning at 1/2 the rated speed.
As far as trying out the Verbatims, check your local Wal-Mart. They usually carry the Verbatims in 5 packs. As far as your question about the DVD+R or DVD-R compatibility, older DVD players, usually those made over 4 years ago were typically only compatible with the DVD-R discs. The DVD players produced after that, were compatible with DVD+R discs. Nowadays, most DVD players will allow for the playback of both. However, it is wise to use DVD+R discs because they seem more compliant with most Players/Burners. Use DVD-R discs for PS2 backups, data DVDs, etc. My advice, stick with +R, you'll probably be happier in the long run.
that side is meant as a guidline.. they havent updated their lists in a while. makers of the media could change in a heartbeat. yes that is tdk's on brand.. but that doesnt make it good. the only one that i can think of right now that does that is Sony or Taiyo Yuden.
