What brand of DVD media did you use, and what speed did you burn at?

CMC media is poor quality and will produce poor results. Burning too fast will also cause the type of issues that you report. You should burn your backups at 4x, till you have the process down and are comfortable with your results. Then you can try burning faster and check the results to see if they are better or worse. The general rule is not to burn faster than half the rated speed. (this is not etched in stone, however). Many burn faster, but what I am trying to emphasize is to work out the process first to obtain the best results, and once you are consistant, you can then make littles changes to improve your burn quality and speed.

Some of the best media is Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Maxell, Sony, and Fuji, with the latter three look for the MIJ manufacture. (MIJ - made in Japan)

Post back, your burning program, media, and burn speed. Also make sure that you set your target size to around 4300mb in DVDShrink. This will keep you from burning too close to the edge of the media where dye spread is often inconsistant. Burning too close to the edge of the media will also cause freezes and pixelations on some brands of media.

    Cheers.

Also, check and make sure your burner firmware is up to date.

I do not have nero, so I am not sure where to set the target size to 4300 at in that program. I think that Arniebear does, so he can probably help you with that.

I do not know about the quality of Kodak, but it is rarely spoken of at this forum, so I would be concerned about the quality of that media. You could post a query, or do a search on kodak at the media forum to check the quality.

Skips, freezes, pauses, pixelation, etc are usually symptoms of incompatible media, burning to fast or firmware that is not up to date. Check your fw out and see if it is correct.

Open your Nero InfoTool and it will show you what your drive is and the current firmware that you have.

Take the model of your drive and type it into the search text box at the web link that arniebear gave you. It should tell you what the latest firmware version for your drive is. If it is updated, download the update and double click on it. It should self install or provide you with directions to flash the drive.

    Cheers.

Your burner looks like it has original fw in it, the current ver is DL13. Firmware is what lets your drive recognize new media and burn speeds. Yours is 3 updates behind.

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2126

You can go to the above site and dl the latest firmware for your burner and then unzip the file click on it and flash the drive with the new ver. However, you must understand the flashing a drive is always a risk, but not doing it will also mean that you will have problems with skipping and freezing and burning. It is your choice. I and others on this form have flashed drives with no problems, but I just want to explain the risks so you know.

Great, try another burn, at 4x, set the target to 4300, do not put a lable on the disc, use a sharpie. See what happens. If you still have issues, then try another media type such as those listed above.

    Cheers.

You set your [bold]burn[/bold] speed at 4x [bold]not your read[/bold] speed. You can set this in Shrink after you hit the backup button.

This image is taken from arniebears pix above. You should be able to change the burn speed from the area that I circled in red.

You change the size in DVDShrink.

    Hope this helps.
