    ive recently started burning dvds and have been experiencing lots of problems with it. ive tried using nero, dvdshrink, dvd decrypter, and dvdfab but only managed to actually burn a few as i always seem to get a message saying i have a write error

    ive just been looking through some forums and found one about ASPI so did a check and found that mine was not installed properly, so used adaptec to verify it and found that WOWPOST.exe, or WINASPI.dll installed. whereabouts can i find these so that i can try and get things moving again!?

    not sure what other specs or info that may be needed but will find out if you need anything

    im started to get a bit annoyed with it now but dont want to have wasted loads of money on a writer and dvds!

    thanks!
    Kris

    @krisgio
    You can check your ASPI in Nero's toolkit in Info Tool - click on the aspi tab to see if it's installed and not corrupt.
    The logs you can post to help sort this out can be found here: For Nero 6: program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.txt or
    Nero 7: programs files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>Nerohistory.txt.
    Make sure you edit out your serial # - they usually begin w/ 1A or
    1C. Post just the last log.

    realised ive made an error on my initial thread, i meant that i followed the link provided by dolphin2 and ran the software, and i found that i did NOT have either WOWPOST.exe or WINASPI.dll installed, would this be what the problem is?

    here is a copy of the last log that i found:

    sorry, also ran nero infotool like you said, and it said that my ASPI is corrupted

    Since Nero didn't like your installation of ASPI, try this one:

    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/frcaspi.cfm

    Install it, reboot and then run the Nero InfoTool before burning.

    ========================================

    Also, on your log I saw the following:

    [bold]===================================
    Nero Version: 6.6.0.17
    ===========================[/bold]

    Try updating your Nero to 6.6.0.18

    http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe

    You have to many things running while trying to burn. Close down all unnecessary apps (including Anti-virus, Spyware apps and your Internet connection).

    The discs you are using are not being seen by your writer properly.
    Try a different brand of discs like TY or Verbatim.

    You might want to try a re-writtable disc until we get your problem fixed. That way you will not keep wasting discs.

    Aspi is like a communicator between your drive and software. Nero also comes w/ one and you can try and use nero's - just change it in dropdown in the aspi tab of info tool.
    Your drive can also use a firmware update- the latest is P2.3 -this helps with the read/write strategies of media. Here's a link - scroll down to your drive:
    http://www.storageupdates.philips.com/dvdrw.html#16
    This may also help w/ the MCC media which is usually good stuff. Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. also owns Verbatim.

    The r/w disc advice from dolphin2 is right on - at least your can erase them tell things get sorted out.
    Keep us posted.

    hi guys thanks for the help, that seems to have worked now. i dont know whether the dvd-r's that i was suing were off a poor quality but they were EMTEC if anyone knows about them?

    also had a question about coping .avi files, ive read a few guides and burned a few dvds with them but they take forever to convert into dvd format. is there a faster way to burn them i.e as divx? i have a tv series that takes up around 2GB of space o my hard drive but doesnt all fit on to a blank dvd, any way of doing this?

    The emtec disc you had were manufactured by MCC which is good stuff. Now should you buy them again? No - cause they use many different manufacturers - alot of crappy ones. Look for Verbatim or Made In Japan Fuji, Sony or Maxell.
    Now the .avi bit can't be of too much help there - rarely do it - takes too much time :) For more help on that check out this forum:
