Hi, I'm the proud owner of a Toshiba Gigabeat MPEG F-20 player and hardware-wise it's great, no complaints but the software is absolutely dreadful! Does anyone know of any workarounds to use alternative software to add to the device? Even if it's WMP that'll do but the gigabeat room software is appalling.

    Thanks in advance

    Sam

    I assume you're using gigabeat's v-2.0.2 software.
    They just released v3.0.
It's supposed to be vastly improved.
I just ordered my new version (it's free)
    Call them at 800-631-3811, M-F 8a-7p CST
You'll need your model # and serial #

You can currently use WMP if you set the GB to WMP rather than GB Room in the setup.
However, it will only use USB 1.1 as only GB Room supports USB 2.0
Also, it will not load the album art.

Both of these issues have been fixed in v-3.0
I'll know more when my new CD arrives.

I'll try that, since WMP doesn't recognise it at all on my PC.

I just called and they said it needs to be backordered. They wouldnt give me an ETA. Does anybody know how much it takes for you to get the software after calling?

    Cheers.-

"Rise and shine, Mr Freeman…rise and shine. Not that I wish to imply that you have been sleeping on the job…no one is more deserving of a rest. And all the effort in the world would have gone to waste but until…well let's just say your hour has come again. So wake up Mr Freeman, wake up and smell the ashes."

So I got the software. It works much better than previous version:
It handles album art in a better way (full-res)
It has a more intuitive navigation scheeme
    It doesnt hang as often.

However, the treatment of playlists is still a very weak point:
You cannot import synchronize playlists with WMP.
You cannot even import playlists in some commonly used format like M3U.
Even if you use the Gigabeat Room software from Toshiba you cannot sync playlists created on the PC to the device.

    Does anybody know a workarround?

So is this software worth me getting?
