Can anyone kindly tell me why my DVD drive can now only read at 1.2x/write at ~2x? It used to read:~8x / write:~4x. Just before it happend, I installed Alcohol 120% (which I have since uninstalled with no improvement) and changed the region code on the drive from 1 to 4. I can't change the region back right now as I have no region 1 DVDs with me at the moment.

    Thanks!!

    Thanks for your post catfreak.

I tried reinstalling IDE driver, checked the DMA settings, and uninstalled all drive-related programs (like those direct-access DVD rewrite programs), but I'm still maxing out at 1600kb/s. I have yet to download new ASPI layer. Could that be it? Where should I get a reliable one? any other suggestions if that doesn't work?

    Thanks!
