Was going to purchase Emerson EWR20v5 VHS to DVD recorder,as I wish to transfer 16 home videos to DVD format. However, I just read that DVD discs deteriorate after 4-5 years unless it is a "professional type" ?? disc not Walmart brand. Please advise. Am I wasting my time? Thanks Cindy

you can always backup the dvdz to your hard drive and keep them on there. If the dvd gets ruined, you can always just burn a new one.

I have installed a 250 GB drive for just that purpose. When I want to view a DVD I just copy it from the hard drive to a DVD-RW and view it, then erase the DVD-RW. If you want to keep your DVDs confidential as well as fresh, just encrypt the hard drive.
