Hi, i recently purchased fairly cheap operating system - windows xp media centre edition 2005 from a computer fair (brand new sealed) i have installed it about twice on both of my home pc's. my brother who is currently at university came last weekend and took it for his laptop. at that time i did not need it but i was having problems with my anti-virus software and while downloading i had lots of viruses. this changed my task bar, all my settings, all the colours and moved all my files. as soon as i installed the software it detected many viruses with high threats but my computer WAS SOOOOO SLOW that i could not do anything. i have only 512mb ram, which use to be used at about 240mb ram but now its 468mb, and my computer takes one minute to open my documents. anyway, i thought it will be better just to start a clean frest start. so i want to re-install windows. i have formatted my hard-drive but than realized i dont have the xp disk. my brother is due to come in easter holidays from uni. so he sent me the disk via the internet, i downloaded it from his computer which took now less than 3 hours. now i have a bunch of files which i do not know what to do with? please help me install xp!!! there are 2 files called MRMPOEM_JA which is 732mb and is a IMG file. the other file is MRMSD2_JA and is 335mb and is also a IMG file. There there are another 2 sub files and CCD files which are all under 30mb. i have burnt these to a DVD but how do i install the windows xp media centre edition??? I also have a CD key for it which conforms i have purchased it even though i had to phone microsoft as i have used it over 3 times. please help me ASAP THANKS!!!
It sounds like he used clone cd to copy the discs. So you need imgburn to burn the files to disc and then install normally. Sounds like there are two cdrs there....::> It was nice of him to make a iso of it, but he should have explained it better to you.
the thing is he doesn't have a clue on how to get it working. he is not an expert and nor am i. so he just tried what ever he could. i will try and burn it usin IMG burn like u said. anything else i need to know, just tell me. thanks for the help
You could also try MagicISO, the free version of that can open and extract (to hard disk) numerous compression formats.
