i bought a new SONY DVD Writer Model DRU-810A, i converted a divx movie to DVD format using Avi2DVD software, when i tried to burn it in the DVD+RW (Sony make), it stopped at 18%, and didn't proceed at all, later i erased the content and kept trying for few times, the same problem occurs...after few percentage of burning there is no activity in the writer, if i try to abort the operation and try to eject the disk, its not responding..

the dvd writer, perfectly reads dvd and cd, Is this a problem with the DVD media or the writer itself ???

Please let me know....btw am using Nero 6 for burning DVD

    Thanks in advance
    Param

This could be a burner firmware problem, I know you said it was a new burner but I have known cases where the firmware on new burners was outdated.

Heres a link to the latest firmware
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2179

Also which version of Nero6 are you using?

    Hi thanks for the reply,

by the way, i used a DVD RW media for backing up dvd movie and it worked fine, and i erased it, then am trying with the same DVD media...it stopped buring 1% in another try 2% and in another try 18%...all in the same media...

i need to check with a DVD-R disc to see whether it gets burned properly.....

am using Nero 6 SE, it came with the Sony DVD Writer itself a complete pack.....

as you say....is it surely a firmware problem or with my repeated tried media problem?...

    Thanks
    Param

Nero6 has many versions so to see if it's the particular version of Nero that is causing the problem we need to know this.
It will be something like 6.6.0.18 or similar.

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply, i will check it and let you know...

meanwhile, i downloaded the firmware from the link
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2179

which you have mentioned, but in that it says, changing firmware might cause some problems with the drive, since i'm totally unware of the technical stuff's of firmware...i want to make sure, running the downloaded file will cause no damage to my drive...?

even the file comes from the link
    http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/downloads/810AFW10D/810A_1.0d.zip

directly from sony, i just want to make sure, from you that upgrading the firmware will not cause any problem!

    Thanks again
    Param

The firmware version from sony is the same as the link I provided, I wouldnt worry about causing any damage, its firmware from sony for THAT burner.
