Hi Everyone, I am looking for the best places online to buy dvd media. I am also wondering if TY & Verbs have a professional line of dvds they offer. Also would it be a good idea to but the dvds in 4X or no higher then 8x. I also read a lot of post online and have seen people burning dvds at different speeds. All i can say is different strocks for different folks or what ever works. any help would be real nice thank you. John Bryson
@brysonj If your in the US I would recommend http://supermediastore.com or http://rima.com. 4x media is getting harder to find but supermedia does sell the 4x of TY. I mainly use 8x or higher of both TY & Verbatim. My rule of thumb is 1/2 of what the burner supports as long as the media is rated at that speed - ex 16x speed - burn at 8x w/ 8x media or higher. So depending on your burner - 4x (a few cents cheaper) or 8x should be fine.
Hi Binkie 7, thank you for responding so quickly i appreaciate it a lot. as a newbie i have already made some mistakes. My first spindle of dvd came from tirgerdirect and they were 16X dvd + r "MEMORIX" BOO. anyway we all live and learn and i am sure they will get used for something. well i just got another rack of 100 from verbatim there dvd r +1x-8x speed is that good enough. I should of waited on that order as well but again i acted to quickly. i saw a great deal on TY at superstore were i bought the Verbs. but o well i have a few hundred dvd now the TY can wait. My burner is a new sony drx 810 Ul dual and double burner. 1 more question does the quailty of the burn have anything to do with a combination of media and DVD Burner. any fee back would be real nice thank you and have a safe and wonderful evening John Bryson
@brysonj lol - we've all made mistakes - newbie or not That's why I use TY & Verb's. I too have made those mistakes! But your right we live & learn - experience is usually the best teacher. For the memorsux - I have yet to find a good use for them - esp the ones made by cmc - heck even as a frisbee for my dog they don't cut it! The Verbatims you bought should be fine - they are usually made by mcc which is good stuff. IMO the media is the most important to the quality (depending on the amount compression used), then the burner and burn speed. Keep your fimrware up to date also on your drive - helps the with the read & write strategies of media. You have a good & safe one too!
@ binkie 7 All my firmware is up to date. i use anydvd and clone dvd 2 a bought version. i hate using "CRACKED" versions for the reason it is usually had to up date. I have been told by many 4X is the Speed of "BURNER CHOICE" I will only say i was burning my first dvd @ maxium speed thats changed. I really love the quailty of the DVD R+ DL but the problem is the "COST". going from a dvd 9 to a dvd 5 with any program i think and feel you will loose something. well i am off and running it been nice seeing you i hope we can talk again have a safe and wonderful evening now John Bryson Joihn Bryson
Excellent info and answers as always binkie. Newegg has a super deal on verbatim dvd+r MCC003's right now. 100 pk for $22.99 after $25.00 mail in rebate plus free ground shipping. Just got mine yesterday. I prefer these to all other media. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817130957
@ mort81, thanks man for the imformation about the dvd it is well appreaciated. I can't wait until the dual layers come down in price. I am not a big fan on compression however i rather pay 60 bucks for a spool of 100 dvd +r verbs compared to the dual layes over 300 for a 100. John Bryson
@Mort81 I've learned from the best of you guys here at aD! @brysonj Mort81 is the verb man so you should check out his link if your prefer verbs. Yep dual layer is better but more expensive and yes compressing it does lose some quality - just depends on what is acceptable to you. Editted to add: 4x is good to start with - but with your burner and quality media I would bump it up to 8x with the verbs and see how the players respond.
You can get a 10 spindle pack of quality Verbatim DL discs for 20 bucks at Bestbuy. They used to be 65 for 10 but now they're regularly 35 for 10. They go on sale often for 20 bucks. So if you don't see it for 20 bucks, just wait until next week or the week after and get 'em.
