I've just bought a Sony HDR-HC1 camcorder and have been trying to get my computer to recognize it, but with no luck. I know I need a firewire to transfer data. At the moment my computer doesn't have a port for one (have to get a card). I'm using USB, thinking that at least it should detect the camcorder. BTW, I'm using STOIK Capturer. I'm new to this and I must be doing something wrong. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

If you are using USB you will need to install the driver that came with the camcorder. And even then, many capturing program will still not recognize the camcorder. You're pretty much bound to use the software that came with the camcorder :-(

Thanks for the replys. I have installed a firewire card, computer recognizes camcorder now. Have one more problem with blue screen error message from either card or 30 trial of Ulead VideoStudio(see other pc hardware forum if curious).
