    Hey everyone,
I have some analogue 8mm tapes that I want to convert to DVD using a DVD recorder. I bought a Sony TRV480 Digital 8 that plays 8mm, Hi8, and D8 and it has a firewire port which I've tried connecting to the DVD recorder's firewire port. Problem is that when I connect it to the DVD recorder, there's no video signal. I've turned on the video camera's AV->DV setting on but this hasn't had any effect.
Does anyone know how to get this to work? I know I can get a Hi8 camera with an S-Video port to do the transfer, but I was hoping to do it via firewire to get the best quality.
    Thanks
    Matthew

I am trying to accomplish a similar problem, I am looking to get old 8MM video into my computer (Mac) and am looking at buying a Sony TRV480 that I think will do the trick. If anyone can confirm that the TRV 480 will playback standard 8MM tapes and send a digital feed to the computer that would be great. The TRV 480's have an 'AV-DV' switch, and I have seen them for sale for approximatley $350. I would welcome other ideas if someone thinks they have a better way. I have about 12 tapes to rescue and I no longer own the camera they were shot on. Thanks very much for any help that can be provided.

I've been able to input them using iMovie 05 and 06, but for some reason it won't work with iDVD.
