Okay, so here is the problem. I have had the laptop I am using for about a year. Of course it happens outside the warranty...but anyhoo....I think I got some spyware or something on it so I had the whole computer redone. Okay, so the laptop works good now except this issue with the dvd drive. I had a dvd/rewrittable drive on my laptop. Up until all of this it has worked fine. Now, the computer will recognize a data disc or music disc no problem......but it won't recognize a dvd. I call Compaq thinking they may help since their little helper on the computer says to do so......they wanna charge an arm and a leg but I got from him that it is a software issue????? From what I gather I am assuming it is missing a dvd decoder or something like that....but I don't know and I don't know how to fix the computer.....can someone give me the blow by blow on the issue and how to fix it because I am at a loss. I have tried uninstalling the drive...restarting my computer....then letting it add the hardware. Says the drive is functioning fine but it makes some noise like it is trying to read the dvd when I put one in.....okay...thanks in advance for whoever can be my hero.....
Okay, so I got the codec and it said it installed but nothing has changed.....any other ideas or expertise to share? Thanks!
