i need a new mobo that can use ddr 333 pc2700 memory. can mobo's that use ddr 400 pc3200 use my pc 2700 memory? i dont want to have to buy new memory too. id like to find a quality mobo and p/s for under $100 and not a micro atx board. any reccomendations?
Yes, if the motherboard can support pc3200 speed memory, pc2700 will still work. Pc3200 motherboards just means that the motherboard can support RAM that is up to but NOT limited to pc3200. Slower speeds will still work.
I am currently using the following: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813138253 BIOSTAR N4SLI-A9 Its cheap and SLI, also I haven't had a single problem with it. Give it a look this MB has never given me any problems and I run it in SLI mode while I play some MMORPGs and it never fails me. Anyway for the price you can't beat. Ohhh but I do not have it OverClocked.... From what i hear its kinda hard to OC it.
i get all my pc hardware from newegg.com also. it has an amd athalon xp 1700+ and nvidea mx 440 vidcard 64 meg ddr, i built this comp like 4 years ago. it was a good comp for what i do. the reason i need a new mobo and power supply is because somthing shorted out and the mobo and p/s connector melted together.
Buying new, your not going to get much option on the board, I'm in the UK and can find 1 or 2 socket-A boards on the sites I use (if I'm lucky)so your probably using more what is available rather than what is a good board. PSUs- you may as well look at a good one you can use on your next PC as well, get an ATX 2.2 rather than 2.0, modular ones are good for keeping things tidy. Antec make top PSUs, also Hiper type Rs are top quality, but I think they are hard to obtain in the US.
I got the ultra X connect from Micro Center for $80.00 with a $50.00 rebate The plug ins do make it tidy in the raid max scorpion case. Chris
