Try downloading AnyDVD at www.slysoft.com and run that in the background while using DVD Shrink and you shouldnt have any trouble.

Decrypter should handle this one - nothing special that I remember. Make sure the disc is clean - decrypter will give an i/o device error when the disc is dirty/scratched or a bad press. Try another drive also if you have one.
If that doesn't do the trick try what larrylje suggested.
Now if that fails well then you should exhange it for a new.

Well, DVDD decrypts and burns. So, if the file you get when ripping is over 4.37GB, then you'll need to transcode it (shrink to fit the target media). Plus if you're going to burn with DVDD, then the output of your rip has to be in ISO as DVDD only burns in ISO format. That means you need to rip in ISO Read and burn in ISO Write modes. If you ever run into problems with DVDD, which you will if doing newer movies with Arccoss copyright protection, then using AnyDVD along with it is a good idea. To prevent useless error messages when using AnyDVD with DVDD, Slysoft recommends turning off CSS cracking and Check for Structure Protection and have SPTI on. If you have an error with DVDD + AnyDVD then you may need to do a read scan on the disc to see if it is defective.

Good software, even if not your current problem.

I use a resurfacing tool to remove scratches from discs that have been scratched up badly. You can pick them up at stores like Wal Mart, usually in the section with the recordable DVDs.

Sometimes the discs are flawed during manufacture and the problem isn't visible. I've seen that happen. As I said, do a read scan. If you don't have the software, there's always the free DVDInfoPro utilities that has the function.

There is rescue software that helps recover files, but I'm not that familiar with it. Files have to be readable to be rescued. If you don't get all the files, you don't get all the movie. You can end up with a skip in the movie. So, when I encounter a bad disc, I just get another copy. I've not used a rescue software since XRescue from DVDXCopy (that's been a while).
