my Liteon SOHW 832s burner anymore. I don't know if this is because I just recently upgraded the SP pack for Windows XP.
I don't know what happen but suddenly my Liteon DVD RW 832s stop working yesteryday till now. At first I though it's Nero, but then I tried w/diff softwares and none work. It seems like the computer couldn't detect the burner or something. I'm including a Log text file from Nero, hopefully looking for suggestions. Thanks
For Nero, it says illegal disc, then auto eject it. (Which I think is weird because I have been using only one media since I bought the burner which is Taiyo Yuen. ) And with DVD Dycrypter it says: "Drive not ready, Medium not Presnt"
To sum it up, right now, I can't burn anyting w/my burner.
    Suggestions are appreciated. Thanks all

    From your log:
    Disc Manufacturer ID: RICOHJPN
    Media type ID: W11

I was unaware that Taiyo "Yuen" is selling Ricoh media. Ricoh is still a good media.

    From your log:

The PC and software are recognizing your drive.

Have you tried burning with an RW that is formatted (with nothing on
it) or using a DVD + or -R?

Looks like we saw the same thing. I had my post going while you had posted yours. Didn't see it till I'd posted. As for being a bit more concise, I tire of typing so much. LOL We may have to call in Creaky and teleport this over to the Nero thread.

Like you said, the ball is in andyp95's court. We're waiting...

Opps sorry my mistake. I was testing, therefore I was using Ridata 4X DVD+RW at the time when I posted this message. I used Taiyo Yuen earlier, same thing happened. And I'm testing it now, with TaiYo DUyen +R 4x, same thing happen again. Thanks all
Also I forgot to mention that, before thie I used Nero 6, same illegal thing, then I install Nero 7, unfortunately ..it didnt' help. However w/Nero 7, it automatically eject the disc when I try to burn.

Nero: Illegal Discs w/Nero 6, automatically eject the disc with Nero 7
DVD Dycrypter: Dvice Not Ready: Medium NOt Present
Tmpengc DVD Author: Drive not Ready, when I try to click on burn.

Not saying it's the problem, but it's starting to sound like software interference. Do you have InCD loaded in your Nero setup? Also, do you have any other batch writing software such as Roxio's Drag to Disc? Batch writing software is a known problem when trying to use DVD recording software. Some of it can be turned off and some has to be removed.

Another thing I remember is that a lot of people had serious problems upgrading from SP1 to SP2 with XP. I don't know if that's still a problem or not. Most people upgraded some time ago. The SP2 upgrade worked best from a fresh OS installation on a formatted drive. I went with that process and I didn't suffer any OS problems like a lot of people did. Some systems with a lot of codecs that had been running for a long time seemed more prone to crashing. I hope you don't have to go through a format and new OS install, but it has been known to be needed and can sometimes be faster than trying to fix assorted problems that have developed with use of the OS over time.

No, I don't use Roxy, only Nero, Tmpgenc mostly.
Could it possibly be that the burner is no longer working (dying?)? And I need to get a new one? How can I tell? Thanks for all the help.

How about the InCD or other batch ware?

As for the burner "heading south", stranger things have happened, though I've not seen one act like that. The simple test for a novice is to swap out a known good drive to see if that improves the situation. I realize an extra drive isn't always available.

Before you do anything drastic, try deleting your Nero from the Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Then use Nero's Cleaner Tools to remove any remnants. Then install the latest version of the software. Some of the recent versions were causing problems. You may get lucky. I remember I had to go back to an older version that was stable till the last one came out.

    Hi Brobear,
I don't know if i'm using any batch ware. Oh yes, I remember about drag to disc, I'm not sure if this is the one. But before when I have this error, I tried to burn a cd using dbpowerAMP cd writer to drag the encoded files created by it to burn. It burned successfully but when I put it in the cd player it doesn't play. It's also my last buring w/this dvd burner.
Then I go back to Nero to burn some dvds, and saw the illegal disc message. First I though it's Nero, but then I tried w/DVD Decrypter, Tmpgenc DVD author...same thing happen. None of them would burn.
I deleted dbpowerAMP software to see if there's any help, but it's still the same.

OH about the Nero cleaning tools, which one should I get? The general one or the Incd clean tool?

I'm far from an expert, but InCD is crap, get it off with the cleaning tool, I will go with brobear and the others who say it's software not hardware related (could be wrong thought(disclamer for later use)). LOL. That drive is a good drive, it is the guts of many expensive drives and to have it clap out is unlikely.

    Did you flash it recentley?

As I mentioned, if InCD is there, I'd suggest removing it. It won't hurt to run both clean tools. Do that after removing Nero. Then use the Disk Cleaner in accessories. It would be a good idea to run your adware and anti-virus ware if you have it and do a reg clean. Just maintenance, but a good time for it. Then reboot before doing the new Nero installation.
