I don't want to sound like a noob, but my question is: Whats everyone's opinion on driver updates (video, sound, ect..) is it best to use the latest update or just use the one you already have, as in the one pre-loaded with WinXP. The reason I'm asking is I know my video card isn't the newest (NVidia Geforce3 ti200), it's just that a few newer games, even if they don't excede my system spec, seem to give the card a few problems. If anyone can offer any help or tips please do so. Thanks in advance.
It's best to use the latest version IF it works for your device. For XP SP2, they use Nvidia's video driver version 56.73, which is a the same version as 56.72, but no Nvidia application menu. I have used up to driver version 77.77 on the Geforce 2 MX 400, stayed clear of the 60 series drivers as they were pure crap. Microsoft uses generic drivers. They do what they are supposed to do, but you have no control over any of the menu options available in the public released versions. Plus, released versions fix (or try to) known issues with previous versions. I wouldn't suggest using Nvidia's latest release, 84.21 with that card though it may work...it may also cause other issues. You can still get 77.77 from Nvidia by going thru the menus to get 84.21, and then down the left side, you will see the archive link. 56.72 for the cards I've used it on, was also very stable.
Thanks for your reply. So mostly which would you recommend. I've never tried the 77.77, though I have tried a few others in the past, I have never really found one that seemed to "fit" my system. Some of the drivers just didn't feel right, if you get my drift. Anyway one last question, what about the detonator drivers I hear alot about? Are they worth anything? Thanks asgain.
