I just bought a new LG GSA-4167B 16x super multi DVD/CD rewriter. I already own a Plextor PX-712A. My problem is that I can't get DVD decrypter to copy the DVD files to disk much faster than 4x with the new drive but my Plextor will rip the same DVD up to 12x. I have checked both drives and they seem to be configured the same. I have DMA enabled on both and I've tried switching the drives around from master to slave with no effect. Currently the LG drive is the master and the Plextor is the slave on the second IDE chanel. I know I can just use the Plextor to rip and the LG to burn but I would like to know what the problem is. Thanks.
Could be just a dogdy drive couple of things to check tho First check you are using the correct 80 core cables ( most new pc's do) Then check that your drives are set up correctly ie if you have a cable select cable, check that your drives are set to cable select. Then you could try uninstalling the ide channels in device manager and rebooting this will reinstall all your drivers and can solve the prob. There are various regedit fixes for drives that are stuck in pio mode if you google it your sure to find them, but be careful!!! Could also try a bios flash or even getting a seperate ide controller card with its own bios, they don't cost much. I've got an older pc stuck in DMA 2 so if you cure the prob post back cos i'm on the verge of going the card route! Hope this helps post back if you find a cure.
