Playback problem with DVD-RB and CCE Basic

Hello, I am a novice user but have been using various DVD back-up utilities for quite a while.

Problem: When using DVD-RB and CCE Basic (in movie only mode), the programs seem to run normally. No errors are shown in the log files. However, when playing back the iso file using PowerDVD, the movie plays back great --- until about 2 minutes from the end. It then locks up and shows error 89020003 and says that the disc may have been damaged. This happens with every movie that I have tried recently (at least four). Discs made from the iso files show (of course) the same problem.

The original files were processed using AnyDVD and DVDdecrypter. DVD Shrink turns out a good file.
DVD-RB and CCE Basic used to work fine (if memory serves me) until about three DVD-RB upgrades ago.

I hope that this problem has not been discussed at length in another part of your forum.

    Thanks!

    Media? Target/output size in Shrink?

    Hi,
Target size in DVD Shrink is 4360 MB.
Media is single layer, 8x discs KHypermedia. (If that is what you were asking for)
Note - I see the problem when playing the iso file from the hard drive, prior to disc generation.
In DVD-RB, I use whatever the program default is for file size, it comes out around 4.32 GB for DVD-5. Reduction was 51.9% as listed in log file.

    Thanks

Get some better media, this is not that good. Try Verbatim, or MIJ Sony, Fuji or Maxell. And make sure your burning at 4x. Have you tried burning/playing the Video output files to see if there is any difference.

Thanks, I have some 16x Fuji discs, I will try those (at 4x)

It also appears that I am having cockpit problems here.
When I play the final VOB file as you suggested using PowerDVD, it works fine. When I convert (using Folder2Iso) to iso, I have the problem.
I will run some sort of controlled experiment here and respond later.
    Thanks

Why are you creating the iso with FolderToIso, I am really not familiar with that program. RB will create an iso file along with VOB files if that is what you choose and then you can just burn the iso manually/automatically with DVDDecrypter or ImgBurn.

Prior to purchasing CCE, I used DVD-RB in HC mode. This always gave me an error when I outputted to iso, but worked fine when I converted the output files using Folder2iso. I just kept using the same procedure after I got CCE Basic.

I am redoing the conversion of a test movie in CCE mode and will try going directly to iso.

Thanks for all the comments. Here are the latest results in my saga.
I processed two discs through DVD-RB and CCE Basic and had the output sent to an iso file. Both of these discs had previously failed when I sent the output to a DVD folder and then converted them to an iso file using Folder2iso.
One of the new iso output files plays, but gets a little "jumpy" near the end of the movie. The second file locks up PowerDVD about two minutes from the end of the movie.

When I play the output VOB files (the last VOB file in each) using PowerDVD, they work fine. I then burned discs from the DVD folder using Roxio and got good discs.

Apparently, my machine has some aversion to making iso files from the RB output when using either the internal process within RB or the Folder2iso program (which normally works fine for me). This could be due to some interaction with the myriad of other software either present or semi-deleted from my machine.

Anyway, I now have a recipe which seems to work and which has given me two good discs. I am sure that I could figure out what is going wrong with the folder to iso conversion process - but I am not sure that it is worth the time.

    Thanks for the help.
