I've been using DVD X Platinum for a couple of years without problems but have been running into more problems recently--specifically in regards to larger movies I want to split for quality purposes (it usually won't allow me to split due to some sort of software error).

I've updated the latest and last DVD X Platinum product without success, so now I'm looking for a replacement ripper/burner. Since I only have single-layer burner and am specifically having trouble backing up larger DVDs, I'm wondering what products THE FORUM would recommend for splitting DVDs.

The best package for splitting movies is AnyDVD and CloneDVD2, you can try a free 21 day free trial period after that it is pay. You can split disks and retain menu functions on both which is a plus. If you are not familiar with this sw AnyDVD is a driver that works in the background and breaks the encryption and Clone will compress and burn you movie file. These programs will do all the latest encryptions.

If it is free you want then you can use DVDShrink which will allow you to spit using start and end frames however you will loose your menu function. Shrink will rip newer encrytions so you will need to use DVDFab Decrypter to rip to your HDD first and then use Shrink.

    Get the sw here

I do not know why you should have problems backing up large DVD's with your burner. A DL burner only means that you can burn both DL's and single layer disks. Compressing your file down will fit it on to a single layer disk.
