To anyone still wondering what is the best chip, The top three no swap chips in my oppinion are:

#1. DMS3 2.0 - This chip is the real deal and has all kinds of extra functions. It has DVD region free, firmware upgrades through CD-r that you can DL from the main site, macrovisin off, you can install and boot small apps off the memory card such as the ps2 reality player and even a game shark program!! Also it has a sort of stealth function. some mod protected games will not detect it even when the chip is on. By all means the most expensive chip but well worth the money.

#2 Messiah 2 Pro - Is the closest thing to mod chip perfection when it comes to booting back ups. This chip set the standard for all the modern chips today and its original features are now the ground work for all chips today. It was the first chip to have the ability to turn its self off after a few seconds and the first to have the ability to be disabled by the user. It also was the first to have "Browser support". Meaning you can boot games out of the browser screen and not just upon start up. Emulated by all the messiah 2 is father of modern chips.

#3. Magic 3.1 - Originally put out as the magic 3, the 3.1 is an updated version that fixed some boot code injection issues found in the original 3.0 code. Improvements include a the ability to be turned off by the user(after the messiah 2 pro did it) and gos to sleep after a few seconds after being turned on(also first done by the messiah 2). If the messiah 2 is the father of modern chips then the magic 3.1 is the grand father. It has all the functions you need and is very affordable( never pay more than $30 for one of these unless it comes w/ wires or something). If your all about bang for your buck then the 3.1 is for you.

hey buddy - just thought I'd add a note for those who dont like/know how to solder and are looking for an alternative.
flip tops - very good alternative to the solder chips. no special features, just allows disc swap without resetting the board.
no-solder chip - decent alternative, known to blow fuses and/or wear out the tray motor prematurely. swap is slower than with a fliptop.
magnet trick - (using the white magnet hub to secure disc in place, PS2 all apart) works but very dangerous, i had a disc launch acrossed the room once and stick thru 1/2 inch drywall. not recommend.
knife/cog trick//swipe card - it works, but it's a hassle. you can easily snap the tray guide pin, or cause the tray to jump the guide track and it's not very easy to get it back in place.
-L-dubb---feel free to add to this or PM me and i'll edit it. good idea starting this thread.

Hey,
How do you turn the messiah 2 off? and also how do you start it from the browser window. Because I'm supposed to have a Messiah 2 but I have to start all my games by pressing the restart button. Also does the messiah 2 have different modes? Thanks

Turn on the ps2 w/ out a game in it and let it go to the browser/settings screen. Then put a game into the tray and close it. After a few seconds the game should boot like normal. If this does not work then you my friend do not have a messiah 2.

Sorry people my hands are tied. Good thing I know tae kwon do!!
