Recently I bought an AMD Athlon64 3400+ (same PC in link provided, same specs and everything)

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Athlon64-3400...QQitemZ8787293873QQcategoryZ179QQcmdZViewItem

However viewing true system specs before installing XP Pro the processor speed indicated 2400mhz (12 x 200), I didn't think much of it so I installed XP pro and Aida32.

Then Aida32 displayed processor name as mobile AMD athlon64 processor 3400+, and when I check the processor speed on Aida32 it displays 2400mhz (12 x 200).

However I could've gone for an intel pentium for less money (for instance my mum's is 3.04ghz)

Basically I am asking if they have tried to pull a fast one, or if I simply don't understand much about AMD's?

And if its the latter answer could someone explain to me why its only showing me 2.4ghz when the computer spec on ebay clearly states 3.4ghz.

    Kindest regards,

Hi paul 1085,Fist off let me say that the seller [bold]IS [/bold]falsely advertising the processor speed but before you get[bold] too [/bold] upset you should know that the comparison of the A/64 3400+ to a Intel 3.4 is fairly accurate.AMD's marketing staff named the processors in accordance with the competitions speeds i.e; 3200+=3.2,3400+=3.4 and so on.
I am presently using an Athlon 3400+ and in the benchmarking tests I have run, mine not only out performs the 3.4 but it out performs the 3.8 to some extent as well.
All in all,I think you've got a pretty nice machine there as I believe you will soon agree.

Yeh cheers thats reassuring to hear.

I have noticed a massive improvement however I'm currently waiting for a wireless router and trying to bend my Mum into going halves on an 8mb (from 2mb) internet connection speed.

So thats when the true speed will start to show.

Hi speed internet is the only way to fly...I don't know how I lived without it for so long! Anyway, from what I read on your new computer the only thing you might want to upgrade is the graphics card, unless of course you don't play a lot of games...in which case the present card should be fine.

    Enjoy your new computer!

Yeh I'm thinking about investing in a 512mb Geforce 6600 for PCI-Express graphics slot, does this have T&L support? (Transform and lighting)

If you had any particular brand in mind let me know and I'll check it out, though it probably does'nt matter.
