Hi everyone, hope you can help me here please. I ripped one of my friend's dvds, Stalingrad, but i saved it to my hard drive. I now have a collection of files: VTS_01_0 (going through to VTS_01_6 ) and those are VOB files apparently. i have VTS_01_1 as a BUP file and a VIDEO_TS IFO file. What i want to know is, can i convert this to an avi file or mpg, and if so, how? I've tried trawling google, but its a minfield of jargon out there and this is the first place where people seem to talk sense Thanks Kess
That group of files should be the contents of a VIDEO_TS folder. There are programs that convert from DVD to AVI, normally AVI to DVD is the conversion most used. WinAVI may do what you want, it has DVD to AVI conversion. I've never used it for that, so I have no idea how good it works.
About the only thing I could figure would be to send a torrent instead of receiving one. Definitely a good way to degrade quality. I forgot to mention the DivX Converter. That converts so the user can record DivX to CD or more easily send over the net. Then there's VCD and SVCD for CD viewing.
Those are the only reasons I can think of. Just thought I'd ask to better help find a solution and make sure something wasn't trying to be done that wasn't necessary.
haha, in all fairness i want to store it on my pc! Avis are the easiest way, take up less space and i can keep them in a library and open them without having the clutter of dvds everywhere. I can't use torrents either uni net doesn't allow any sort of file sharing, and i haven't really got the patience either ANYHOW, i just bought a (rather expensive) program called ImTOO DVD Ripper Platinum and whilst its nice and handy, it seems to convert my dvd files into a separate avi for every damn chapter! GGGRRR. Oh and im even more desperate to get this film, since it seems that there are no dvds of Stalingrad in its original german D: Thanks for the help Kess
If you don't mind the loss of quality, then the AVI will work. I prefer doing the backups to DVD and saving the original and working versions. Takes space, but it's worth it if you like quality movies.
ImTOO DVD Ripper Platinum is powerful, all-in-one DVD ripping software which helps you rip DVD to popular video formats such as AVI, MPEG, WMV, DivX, RM, MOV, MP4, 3GP, etc., rip DVD to audio formats including MP3, WAV, WMA, AAC, M4A, MP2, etc. I guess if a person was going to do a bunch of conversions to AVI it might be worth $31. That is if it works okay. I've not heard anything about this app before. Then there's a bunch I've probably not heard of.
I also have ImToo DVD Ripper Platinum. All you need to do is change the [bold]split[/bold] to infinite. That should create one big file as opposed to separate files. OR Two modes to rip a DVD One is title mode, the other is chapter mode. After loading the DVD to the dvd ripper software, you can click the quadrate button which is between the red button and the "Title" button. This button helps you switch the display between titles and chapters. If you rip in chapter mode, you will get a file for every chapter. When the list box displays the titles not chapters you can convert every title into one file. That is from baaket_na's guide you might want to check it out. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/272081
