Hi Folks, I seem to have run afoul of something on line. So far it does not *appear* to be more than a nusiance. but id like to clear it. I have an exe that keeps appearing on my desktop and my homepage has been reset repeated deleting of exe sees it appear again within minutes. and the homepage will not reset to a page of my choice. I hav eused norton to scan my machine. it detected and deleted several files a few days ago when issue initialy started. but nowt since. Hi SammaH, You seem to have got infected by Smitfraud variant. Here are the instructions to remove it: Download smitrem to the desktop (http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/click%20counter/click.php?id=1) Doubleclick it and then Start -> you'll get smitrem folder to your desktop. Get Ewido http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ install and update it. Don't run it yet! Boot into safemode (press F8 while booting) Start HijackThis, click do a system scan only and check: O2 - BHO: Nothing - {4da4616d-7e6e-4fd9-a2d5-b6c535733e22} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp4C9F.tmp Close all other windows and click fix checked. Then open smitrem folder and doubleclick RunThis.bat. Follow the instructions. After this do a full scan with Ewido and save generated log. Boot back into normalmode. Send Ewido's log, a new HijackThis log and contents of C:\smitfiles.txt file.
