previously able to play/decode/burn with dvd shrink/decrypter and play on windows media player on compaq laptop. now my dvd-rw won't even play most dvds. I get "error message c00d1163 - a problem occurred with digital copyright protection". It will play some dvds partway before it stops working. The dvd player seems to be spinning very loudly with a clunking sound but doesn't read the dvd anymore. So I installed win dvd7 and nvidia dvd decoder and still get the same problem. Then I went to microsoft and downloaded wmp codec, still same problem. I tried to rip with dvd shrink and get about quarter way before the dvd-rw stopped reading further. Seems to have happened after windows xp update, but it could be a coincidence. Software or hardware problem or both? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks for the suggested webpage. I followed his instructions and searched for the file and it was not on my computer. I then ran the windows decoder check-up utility and confirmed I have a wmp10 compatible decoder by intervideo. still having same error message. what to do next?
