Hi I have the following components: DFI LanParty NF4 SLI-DR EXPERT (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939) Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200C2PT TwinX (2x1GB) CAS2 BFG GeForce 7800 GT OC 256MB (PCI-E) 600 Watt 24 pin + 8 pin power supply NEC ND4570 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 NCQ 250GB 6V250F0 SATA-II 16MB Cache When switched on the PC starts to boot and the DFI Lan party logo displays on the screen and then the PC hangs and the processor fan stops.... I thought the problem may be a faulty mother board at first but I returned the motherboard and the problem is still happening with the new one. I have now tried changing the mother board (for same model), changing the RAM with generic 512mb DDR400 sticks and 2 sticks of 1Gb Ballistix DDR333, changing the power suply as I originaly tried a 420 watt power supply, changed the processor to an AMD Athlon 3000 64 and have now tried many different hard drives. I can't think of anything else to try. Any help would be most welcome. Cheers.
While I'm not familiar with your components, it sound like something in your BIOS isn't set properly. What manufacture's is it? Do you get the "beeps" on start-up (POST)?
Any local PC store could easily do a Software/Hardware Diagnostic for less than $40 bucks. Sometimes its worth it. I replaced just about everything in my shitty computer when it turns out it was a good stick of ram in a faulty ram slot the whole time... My PC store found it out and didn't charge me a thing. So yea, if you are stuck, its worth a few bucks to get them to run a Diagnostic. Just call around for Diagnostic quotes.
If you've taken on a board like that, you should at least try to fix it yourself rather than taking it to a shop. For a start what are the four led's showing on the board? Have you checked all the jumpers are present and set correctly. Your psu is connected correctly? The CPU is fitted okay with the correct amount of compound and the fan is mounted properly. make sure you took the cover off the compound on the heatsink if it had one. Have you put the memory in the correct bank? Are the case leads connected correctly to the headers? Make sure the battery is fitted correctly and the cmos jumper is in the right position. If you have no case speaker, get one fitted for help on boot up problems. Make sure the BIOS is not set to SLi mode.
