Hi.. First post here.. I've been using the DVD Fab for the last 30 days.. but now this share ware is come and gone.. (crying... I love this software...it's 2EZ)

Anyways.. giving the old DVD Shrink and NERO suite a go.. having a heckofa time.. After

    1. Opeing it
    2. Anaylzing
    3. Back up? But it wont recognize my HP Media center DVD writer drive...?? Any suggestions...?

When I try to back it up It wont give me the choice of using the *writer* as the back up target.. all it's giving me is either the
Hard disk folder or image disc folder file for back up target choices.....

Second HP media center I've tried this on and both times same results. I've been considering buying a external Sony DVD drive and checking to see if it recognizes that...

Any help... would be a lot of help.. thanks in advance.. and I look forward to all replies..

What kind of drive is it in the Media Center? Never experienced this myself, but it's possibly the drive.
Why would you want to buy a Sony BTW? Most are made by Liteon and Sony just slaps their name on it. Better off just buying the Liteon without "Sony" on it and pay half the price.

It's a typical drive.. not sure name.. can find out if i needed too.

As far as sony.. I don't know where or why but for some reason I could swear I read some where that between the DVD shrink and NERO that the burner had to be a sony.. Who knows? I figured buying an external Sony DVD writer could possibly fix this... Do really need one or want one.. no.. I just want to keep buring movies and get back to it as quickly as possible... Thanks.... for helping and keep it coming

I am no fan of HP dvd writers. Not exactly high quality dvd writers,LOL

Go into device manager/cd-rom-dvd-rom drives:Open up the tree/ Locate that HP burner/double click it/click drivers tab/uninstall drivers/and reboot.

What version of nero do you have?
    Oem disc?
    Downloaded from nero website?
Did you download the INCD packets? You don't need them, and they may cause issues.

I installed an older oem disc of nero onto my cousins hp pc.It did the same thing, wouldn't recognize his lightscribe. His was a TSSt lightscribe, and not the HP 640c that I got. I downloaded the nero express part of that oem disc, and shrink wouldn't list the burner.I then used nero cleantool-6 to remove nero, and then installed nero burning rom from that same OEM disc and all was ok.It was Nero 6.3.?.?.

Also go into dvd shrink/edit/preferences/File-I/O and make sure enable burn with nero is ticked. It should be set as default, but it may be unticked.Keep it ticked and OK.

If you need another burner, definitely go the internal route. Some of those external burners are pretty crappy. Benq all the way!

I'm woundering If I got an external burner for my laptop would that be suitable to burning DVD's??? It's an older Compaq Presario 2100

    Basic machine..

It's gotta have USB 2.0 to start with.
