Since installing my new chipset, when i plug my SATA hard drive in the windows home cd refuses to boot and hangs on "Setup is ... hardware configurations" just after you press enter to boot from the disk. if i unplug the SATA and just use my other IDE hardrive, it boots the windows home cd fine and will go all the way through the setup.

    Any ideas?

Can you clarify what it is you actually installed.
By installed new chipset, do you mean you upgraded the chipset drivers on the motherboard, and if so, did the SATA drive work okay on the old drivers.
Or do you mean that you have just plugged the SATA in for the first time, and have just used that part of the chipset for the first time.
What Mobo are you using and what SATA drive.
Is the board/chipset SATA 2 capable and is the drive also SATA 2, some SATA 2 drives have problems working with SATA 1 chipset controllers and need to be have tweaks done to them.
Have you also made the RAID boot disk for the F6 prompt and set the BIOS correctly to enable the SATA ports?

I used to have the Maxtor Diamond 10 300GB SATA 7200 harddrive rigged up with a:

    AMD Athlon XP 2800+ Barton
    1GB & 2x512MB Crucial DDR400 RAM
    Connect3D 9800Pro 128MB AGP8x
    MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR

    Worked fine had no problems.

I now upgraded the system to this:

    AMD Athlon 3500+ 64-Bit Venice
    <Same memory as before>
    Connect3D X850XT 256MB AGP8x
    Abit AV8-3rd-Eye

I can use IDE hard drives with no problems on the new system but the SATA wont let me boot the windows home to install it on, it gets to the bit after u press enter to boot from disk and then the system hangs and does nothing.

    BigDK,

Ive found out that the new motherboard doesnt support SATA2 but the old one had no problems o_O

Anyways, i changed the jumper settings, and now the board picks it up as 0mb's, before it was how a 300gb should be.
