DTS audio problems with Nero Showtime

Greetings all, I recently found a beautiful looking copy of the LOTR trilogy, it is damn near perfect video quality. The problem I am have is this, I use Nero Showtime for playing DVD's and when I try to play any of the 3 movies I have no sound at all. I get a message that says:

Due to license restrictions, the DVD video will be played without audio decoding from Nero Showtime. However, you will be able to hear the audio if your digital audio output is connected to an external decoder capable of decoding DTS.

I have never seen this before, is there a program I can find that can decode the DTS audio to something Nero Showtime can play? Another question I am wondering is if I burn these to DVD's and try to play them in my standalone, will it have no sound? I don't wanna waste 3 blanks, so I call on your expertise.

    Thanks for any info.

DTS is different from Dolby and requires special equipment. A lot of factory DVDs have both the Dolby and DTS sound tracks. I often opt for the Dolby alone. I'm not likely to buy the DTS equipment any time soon. To date, I'm not aware of any software that converts DTS to Dolby. So, if you have a movie with DTS only and no DTS equipment, I suspect you effectively have a movie without sound.

Well can't argue with that haha, thanks Brobear. Guess I will trash those copies I had and try to get another copy of them.

I'd browse around just to make sure there isn't any DTS conversion ware. I just said I hadn't noticed any. You might get lucky.

After I read your last message I went looking for anything that would play or recode DTS sound. All I found were some WMP codecs which I installed, I can now hear the audio and watch the movies fine in WMP. I guess my main question would be whether or not my standalone would play them correctly.

My standalone is a Cyberhome chdvd-320. I tried looking in the cyberhome forums and browsing google groups for any info on whether or not the player was DTS compliant, but I couldn't turn up anything.

Do you think that if my standalone handles DTS sound fine it would play ok even though Nero plays without sound? I started to think of this because it seems with the proper codec it played just fine.

    Thanks again for the help.

I PMed a friend of mine who is into audio. Hopefully he can drop in and make a post on the subject. I'm not terribly knowledgable on DTS. I know to play it properly, it takes special equipment. I'm not sure if it will play okay on other systems or not.
