Ok im getting a wd4000kd internal hard drive and am going to make it external and need a good external enclosure with fans and etc. Now this is my first time putting an internal in an external enclosure and dont know much at all. Can someone please tell me what i shojuld look for in an enclosure. how many fans should it have, what should it be made of, etc.????? Or could anyone that has experience with any of these enclosures tell me which one is a good choice for the wd4000kd and why? also, if i buy this wd4000kd from newegg (it just comes with the bare drives and no cables). what cables, screws, etc. would i need to buy or wil the external enclosure come with them
I would make sure you get one with both usb and firewire as the latter is faster than usb due to the way it handles data transfers (even though its speed is 80mb slower. Another thing to look out for is feedback on fan noise, as some very cheap models have very noisy fans.
hmm i see. where is a good place to buy these at? And speed noise wouldnt matter to me because im not going to leave it in my PC. just once a week backups

well just researched and found out i have to figure in alot of other things if im gnna get an external enclosure. Well some enclosures are supposidely not for external hot plug use, according to this guy. Dont know about this l shape or what i should look for on this? can someone help? What is e-sata?
Presumably as you never corrected me, you are planning to use the drive in a USB enclosure. In which case any cables for power and serial connectivity will be supplied with the enclosure, and as for the quality of those cables, they are not going to be used externally, they are internal (within the enclosure) so they are not going to have to be strong. External SATA is something different; looks like you need to clarify what it is your doing. My mobo has an additional back plate which allows drives to be externally connected to the pc (using direct SATA connections). As for the hot swap, you won't be hot swapping on the SATA interface, you will be hot swapping on the USB interface (something completely different). Hope you find what you’re looking for in the end.
so if it has a usb interface then it %100 sure, hot swaps? whats the l-shape key? and what is an e.sata enclosure compared to a sata1 enclosure?
well i went ahead and ordered the KINGWIN TL-35CS nighthawk for the external enclosure. Hope its a good one
