okay I have downloaded both programs and so far so good. I have ONE old movie that I'd like to back up before more use. I am clueless here. I have not ripped anything so what exactly is my next step? According to guides, anydvd is set correctly quietly awaiting... now I open CloneDVD2 and it upon the copy movie command: under TITLE CONFIGURATION, it ask for DVD Video files. I have no files yet what to do? I know with anydvd and clone combo, there is no ripping beforehand so what am i missing...aside from EXPERIENCE with this stuff. FORGIVE MY IGNORANCE....
After posting common sense prevailed and yes I am copying as we speak. Honestly...sorry So far clone is doing well..this was one of my favorite movies and already feel relieved in backing it up. Original has been viewed many times.. thanks for input... Not too long ago a young man died from hypothermia..in the mountains. Upon investigating they found everything he needed to survive in the backpack he was carrying. Point is not to panic..of course I realize this techno stuff is not significant in comparison. But it does carry a lesson....thinking thru stuff before assuming the worse... step by step...
If you'd put in the disc and selected it and not told me, I would have asked why? LOL Glad you've got it going. Depending on your system resources you may not want to multitask while backing up movies, especially during the transcoding segment. With CloneDVD 2, that's the part before it burns. If it works okay, don't worry about it. If you get minor errors, then don't multitask.
Multitasking hmm. The transcoding is actually slow b/c antivirus is running in the back. So far this is not a big deal. I wish I could multitask as my pc does. Listen brobear I appreciate your input! Once you gain alittle experience with this stuff, how long should the entire process take. Copying to dvr is much faster than the rest. Processor is intel 4 so I should have no problem with speed once confidence builds. Thanks again.
Speed depends on system resources and the software being used. I use Rebuilder with a true encoder, CCE, for best quality. You can see most of my system specs in my sig. It takes about 2 to 2.5 hours the way I do it with my system. A quick backup with a transcoder like CloneDVD 2 probably wouldn't take much over a half hour. I haven't timed it, but CloneDVD 2 is fast. I prefer software that I can control burn speeds with. I don't like burning over 6-8X with video. My system will burn good 8X media at 10-12X. So don't get caught up in the speed of doing a backup. Find what works for you and go with it. Multitasking while doing backups requires a good reserve of RAM as well as a good CPU. Intel 4 tells me little, except you probably have an Intel P4 platform. CPU speed and RAM amount are important and then one gets into the hard drive size(s) and freespace. Then there's things like drive models and media being used. As I said, Intel 4 doesn't tell me much.
