I currently use my home network as a storage unit and connect to my tv for accessing my movies on the network. I am changing over to macs, because the Mac Mini is ideal for my uses and also, I'm in love with the new MacBook Pro Intel style. My question is if I have files on an external hard drive that has been using Windows XP, can I use that same hard drive on Mac OSX? I think I can read the files for sure, but can I write to the drive as well? This is a big concern. Thanks. Posted this in the wrong place earlier.

first off I'm sorry to see you switching over to macs, I would recommend sticking with real computers, but if you must go to a mac, then good luck.

as long as the mac you have is loaded with Tiger, which is OS X 10.4 or higher, it will be able to read and write NTFS hard drive partitions. If it is less than tiger (I think Panther is 10.3) you will only be able to read NTFS drives, and you can't write them.

    edit 4 typo
