it's weird, i have a Lite-On SOHW 1693S... which i would guess is one of the best burners. and maybe i do have a nice burner, because i'm able to burn with booktyping, but i need GREAT DVD+R media. what would most work best? i know you can't booktype with DVD-R media with a Lite-On burner. and if i burn the media, what's the best speed i can use to not mess it up? i've tried Verbatim, but it seems to mess up (of course, i've only used DVD-R media and not +R).
I love..... no one!

Any of you guys tried Datawrite Classic 8x media?
Ive used these for 3 years now and find them very very good.
Just wondered if anyone else uses them, or have done in the past?

Anyways, for me personally, any Datawrite i've ever used have let me down, whether it's Datawrite Red, Cassic, Grey or whatever so i won't be cruel to my burners/standalone players anymore by letting Datawrite near them

Quote:- £8.48 (inclusive of VAT) for a tub of 50 - awesome price, BUT a lottery as to whether you get MCC discs (Verbatim) or CMC Mags (CMC Magnetics discs). If i want MCC discs (MCC003 or otherwise) i'll always buy the real deal, don't want to chance getting lesser discs.

Hmmm, I bought a 50 Pack of Verbatims in Hong Kong at the beggining of this year. I looked at the ID code, and it said something like YUDEN002. Are those good, geniune discs? If not, then I'm out of luck, cause Australia is really sucky with DVD prices.

I have a Ver 5 PS2 with Messiah chip. For a couple of years I was using Datasafe(-R Ritek G04 4X) and Verbatim(TY -R 4X) without issues. Over the past few months I started using Plextor(TY +R 16X) and booktyping them to DVD-Rom. After a few weeks the plextors start skipping and hanging. They are fine for DVD's so I suspect my PS2 works better with -R and maybe lower speed discs although I never burn at the max speed. I have tried this in my 2 burners Plextor 708A and BenQ DW1655.

Yea some PS2's are picky with what media they use, if you get trouble the best thing is just to try diffrent media see what works best.

I've been using Ritek G05 discs for about a year or so. They worked pretty well and had a nice printable surface on them. But i recently decided to play one of my old backups on my ps2 which was backed up about 8 months ago and I found that it now kept skipping.
I decided to rip it to my hdd and make a new copy although the disc had been kept in a wallet and was free from dirt and scratches. It was only when i tried to rip it to hdd that i noticed that the disc must have been in pretty bad condition as it would only rip at x0.1 speed and had to keep re trying on many sectors. I check all other Ritek G05 backups and same problems with most of them. I have had to make new copies of all these problem discs and bin the old ones.
It looks like the quality or the dye of the discs deteriorates over time regardless of the amount of use the disc sees. Some of the games hadn't been played much.
I tried my old bulkpaq discs and they still work fine, no problems there. So in future be wary about choosing Ritek G05.

Well, I never play copied games even though I have my PS2 modded, which cost around $300 plus shipping. The reason I mod it is to play JP games or Asian games. However, I am a little greedy at this moment. I feel like if there are some of the games but are not what I really like but still want them, I will play them as copied games or owned them. But I know that playing copied games will wear the len of the laser. My question is whether there is any DVD R that don't wear your laser len. I don't really care about the MONEY or how much it costs. If the games I really like, I will buy them rather than just burn them with DVD R.
AGAIN! I am looking for those DVD R that won't wear the laser len. Money is not the problem.

well it morely depends on wat version of ps2 you have. v 13 and 14 have good laser and dnt wear out easily.
guys am using verbs 16x(r,,) and they give me more black screens that TDK 8x (cmc). question if you keep getting black screens does it mean that ur lasers are wearing out??

well, my PS2 is version 16 with laser fix installed. But I have recently started using Memorex for my copied games. Will it be wearing out the laser? That's the reason why I hate playing copied games even though sometimes the laser is a little cheaper than the games themselves. With the labor fee, it is just as much the same.

Not bad at all. Local computer store here in Texas had TDK 16x DVD-R 50 pack on sale for $12.99 (regular price $34.99). Picked up a couple packs and ran info on it in Nero CD/DVD Speed.

_FuRiOuS_ Thanks for the advice. I have just bought the YUDEN discs for 200 packs, which is advertised on media store website. It costs me $60. If this brand of DVD does not wear out the laser, why not the heck to get them. Consider $50 for per game sold in the USA, $60 for 200 packs is worthwhile.
Again does Yuden really wear our the laser or not?

Yuden = Best media you can buy.....TYGO1,2,3 are all excellent media. All media wears down the laser, its just how the world works, but 1st class media like TY and Verbatim prolong the laser's life as much as possible.
