yes im looking to buy this computer http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pr...angid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10072862&catid=10607 . i know its dual core but i dont understand the 3800+2.0 GHz thing. does that mean its only 2.0GHz. How much would the speed of that computer be if the CPU was intel? thank you.
HP AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ 2.0GHz Computer (1430N) First, there is a lot debate over the speed, but that chip is a fast one if running the right software. It is 64 bit instead of 32 bit (which is what most people are running). That means that it could (in theory) process twice as much data at the same rate of the 32 bit processor. I say "in theory" because a lot depends on the software. Whereas lies the problem. There is not a lot of software on the market, or drivers for that matter, to take advantage of the extra processing power. Same theory with the dual core. If it is true dual core, and with the correct software, you could take that speed and times it by 2. Your computer would take info that needed to be processed and send 1/2 to each core, therefor dividing the time it would take for a one core processor, to process the same data, in half. Now, the 3800 means, according to AMD, that this chip would compare to an intel 3.8 mhz, but it is really running at 2.0 mhz.
I have a AMD 3800+ X2 64 and it can run F.E.A.R. at nice settings. also runs COD2 at amazing settings. I went from a 2.0ghz single core AMD to this and I can tell you it is, yes, twice as fast. Also knowing that i will be set for all 64 bit programs is nice. I have always thought that if you can afford it buy the closest to the top of the line you can when ready then all you need to keep up with is componets for at least 2+ years.
