dvd rom and dvd recorder

    I have win xp, my problem is that I have a dvd player and a dvd burner. I changed hardrive and reformated, I' never done this before, now my dvd player want work.I only see a power cable going to the dvd player. what else am I supposed to connect? I have a couple of ribbons but don't know witch to connect, neither one seems to work.Is there a site that I could go to for help? Thanks alot
