hey guys, so, my motherboard died. yay. now, i am running 2x 80gb SATA hard drives. They are not RAIDed, but im not totally familiar with sata tech. and my mobo for some reason reads them as... scci drives... dont know why here is my main Q: I going to replace the mobo with a different model (my old model is discontinued yay) this most likely means im gunna have to reformat the OS i know if they were PATA drives, i could just connect them to another computer and pull off the data, but because these drives are SATA drives, will the new mobo just wipe all the data cuz its trying to 'create' a new raid? really, i just wanna keep my data thnx in advance
A raid array is not created automatically. You would have to enable raid in the bios and then go into the raid controller and create an array and then format. I would however format each disk first. If you are not going to create a raid array with those disks, you won’t loose your data. If you want your data and the other computer doesn’t have sata, buy another sata drive. Put an OS on it and then add your two 80gb drives as second and third. Then burn your data to a disk. After you backed up your data you can reconfigure your drives however you want. One other option is to buy a pci sata controller card and install it on the other computer. Then you could pull off your data.
