I got a computer at a flea market because it came with a nice sony monitor,

well It did not come with a hard drive,
So I stuck in an old one I had,

I get the the screen where it says start windows normal I press enter and get error disks not connected to hpt366
    Bios HPT 366 not installed.

    Any ideas?
Im kinda new to this I guess Im going to rebuild this thing if I ever get it started.

Also no software came with it

    Thank you

after reading for a while I found out that the HPT366 is some kinda chip on my motherboard.

Its a bios chip..look and see if there is a chip with a silver label on it, It's about 1" long and 1/2 inch across, the label will take up most of the top of it and may have some numbers written in biro on it, and it lives in a socket on the motherboard.. It may or may not be near a battery..and may or may not be at the lower front corner...

Is this a Hewlett Packard computer?..( I'm thinking that because of the HPT bit of what is missing) It may be made by Compaq, some of these had the bios setup on a hidden partition on the harddrive, That's a pig to fix and maybe why the machine was at the flea market..

    Have a browse of http://www.wimsbios.com

Missing or corrupted bios..Is it possible to get to the blue bios setup screens. Some compaq and HP comps had a hidden partition on the hdd with the bios setup utility on it.. I lost the bios on a Compaq/HP p2 266 by using FDisk when the drive was in another machine. It wiped the hidden partition...result, just "ERROR261 system options not set" which is similar maybe?.. I think that may be similar to the problem here.. the machine was bought with no HDD..and some needed chipset drivers are missing??..Knowing the make model and all the bios details (phoenix or whatever) including the version number and date could help a lot here...

    I love a challenge....LOL

HPT could possibly be a raid controller on the mother board (High Point Technology). If it is an older board there is a jumper that has to be enabled.

My mistake, it is not a raid controller but an ultra dma 66 IDE controller.

Until he comes back with some specs I can't really see how we can help..

I do not want to say anything else till I get that on there.

I was useing an hdd that had all kinda stuff on it from another pc.

I also tried a blank hdd it did not see it and the 366 error still came up then it told me to insert system disc?

I dont no what a system disc is.

So know what do I do?

    Thank you

Go back into the bios and set autodetect hdd to auto..
Wait a bit and it should come up with some options for the primary master... cylinders..heads and sectors...enter the number with the Y in brackets next to it..usually 1 or 2, if it's not primary master stop and check which cable the drive is on..and where the jumper is set...needs to be master.....if you have to reset the jumper or move the drive to the other cable...start again..until it detects the drive as primary master..

Then it will go through trying to detect any other drives...you may have to agree to skip..when it finishes go back to boot options and set it to boot from D: then C:

Save and exit...while it reboots put the cd in again...and see what happens

If we get it working don't expect anything special...It's as old as some of my servers...
sorry not being snappy with you...xbox morons have wound me up!!..lol
